I Want to Know What Love Is?

Scripture reference John 15:13 says "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."
We often in our human-ness put conditions on our love.  Thank God, He didn't put conditions on giving His one and only Son.  We in no form or fashion deserve the love that God gives and continues to give us.  Yet we will act adversely towards our friends, our spouse, our sisters/brothers because we don't like how they treat us. I know that I am continually confused by the lack of love in marriage. The commitment vows say for better or for worse.  Why would you intentionally make things worse?  If there is a spouse that is ill or with medical disabilities that can be challenging, however it falls under "In sickness & in health".  Even financial issues cause challenge, however it falls under "For richer or poorer".   If you just simply are not being loving (spitefully) because you feel like you are not being loved, then that is creating issues. This goes to personal immaturity and insecurity.  One would hope that when marriage is on the table, honesty & integrity are on the table too!  There should be no personal agenda's - Wealth, Fame, Status, Benefits etc...
Eph 5:25 says "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it: v 28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies.  He that loveth his wife loveth himself. v33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband."  This go back and read fully Ephesians 5. If a life of marriage is what you desire and what God has blessed you with, recognizing love even in its smallest form to your eye(seeing it), ear(hearing it), heart(feeling it), mind(sensing it) will save you heartache.
